Tours Montepulciano
Erected on the edge of a hill in the Southern part of Tuscany, Montepulciano is a medieval village of rare beauty which deserves to be visited! You will enjoy its Renaissance palaces, gorgeous squares and romantic hidden streets. From Montepulciano you can get a nice and infinite view over the Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana.
Moreover thanks to its strategic position, this village is the perfect place for a small trip over the weekend to discover this beautiful part of Tuscany. An area that offers a huge variety of churches and historical palaces to visit such as:
Piazza Grande – If you are a film lover this square will be familiar for you! It’s the scenario of the famous movie New Moon of the Twilight saga. Despite of this, Piazza Grande is the main site of the village as well as the historical and civic heart of Montepulciano.
Palazzo Comunale – Planned by Michelozzo, this palace is very similar to Palazzo Vecchio in Florence for its architecture and style of the facade.
Palazzo Nobili -Tarugi – Dating back to the beginning of XVI century, this palace fully covered in travertine, is not open to the public but it’s one of the beautiful sites of Montepulciano.
Duomo di Montepulciano – Situated in one of the sides of Piazza Grande. Very particular is the use of the bricks and the lack of it on a part of the facade: it seems that after having built so many buildings, the city had run out of money.
Chiesa di San Biagio – This church is one of the masterpieces of the architecture of the Renaissance.
